prologue: night

Falling, and then finding himself alone on the shores of the Realm of Darkness, Gryxas was discovered by two other Nobodies. Miraxus, a bodhisattva who preaches a gospel of nothingness, solitude, and oblivion; and her second, companion, and bodyguard, a sniper named Xaranevs. Although he was badly wounded, Gryxas initially refused Miraxus' aid (+1 Connection: Independance). Though, when faced with the prospect of being alone forever, he agreed to ally with them and the Organization.

Together, the three traveled to the World That Never Was. Gryxas was initially put off by the behavior of the other Nobodies, considering many of them immature or needlessly cruel. Xaranevs explained that without Hearts, Nobodies had to create personalities for themselves, or they would fade away. In time, Gryxas and Xaranevs grew close, though he still rejected Miraxus' sermons of oblivion. When Xaranevs questioned him about what he wanted, Gryxas told him he wanted revenge on whoever had turned him into a Nobody(Gain 1 Overdrive when the turn order reaches you, and 4 Overdrive when you strike a killing blow against an enemy). Later, Gryxas formed a friendship with another Nobody, a fallen Summoner named Zaxiel (+1 Connection, Zaxiel [Friendship]).

During his stay in the World That Never Was, the city was attacked by a creature that the Nobodies dubbed a Black Colossus. Black Colossi were Heartless formed from Espers, Eidolons, Guardian Forces and similar creatures. Titanic, and filled with rage and hunger, they were nearly unstoppable, and the Colossus virtually destroyed the castle before the Nobodies drove it off.

Zomax, one of the Organization's leaders, gathered the Nobodies together to propose a solution to the threat of the Colossi. They would use a Summoner in order to imprison and contain the essences of the fallen titans. Gryxas opposed this idea (+1 Connection, Zomax [Hatred]), pointing out that among other things, they didn't have access to a Summoner. Zomax countered this by pointing out that Zaxiel was a Summoner, and that they would use him. Gyrxas was horrified to discover that Zomax had coerced Zaxiel to go along with his plans, by convincing the younger Nobody that it was the only way to protect the city and Gryxas. The matter ended up being put to a vote, and despite Gryxas voting 'No' (+1 Agility, +1 Will), Zomax was allowed to proceed.

prologue: twilight

Aryelle is a teenager and a life-long resident of Twilight Town. She has been friends with Glen, Lenna, and Bartz since early childhood. Her gift for magic was discovered at a young age, and unlike other children, she attends boarding school in a distant land. Aryelle is highly talented, and is Headmaster Yen Sid's personal apprentice.

Before she was allowed to return home for the summer, she had to pass a final exam. She chose to study before writing to her friends (+1 Connection, Learning). Aryelle wrote on her exam that she wanted to 'be powerful' (+1 Will, +1 Vitality, 'Water' Spell), and 'to know everything' (Gain 3 Overdrive when you apply or remove a status effect, and spent MP translates into Overdrive on a 2:1 basis).

When she arrived at home, she discovered that two of her friends, Dall and Raya, had gone missing. Her best friend, Glen, had organized the other kids into groups to search the town for them.

prologue: dawn

Glen is a teenager who was brought to Twilight Town as a young child. He has no memories of his life before arriving, and he lives with his uncle, Leo. His uncle rarely spoke about their past, and Glen never pressed him on it. Glen and Aryelle are best friends, and Glen wrote to her often while she was away at school (+1 Connection, Aryelle [Friendship]). His uncle trained him to be a swordsman, though Glenn believed that protecting people was more important than justice (Gain 1 Overdrive whenever an ally takes damage. Additionally, spent Focus translates into Overdrive on a 1:2 basis).

When Glenn discovered that children from the town were going missing, he organized the other children into groups to search for them, teaming up with Aryelle when she arrived. After a week of fruitless searching, Glen and Aryelle attended a beach party together in an attempt to protect their friends. At the stroke of midnight, a star fell into the ocean, and Heartless emerged from it. Glen and Aryelle tried to fight them, but they dragged Glen into the ocean and left a critically injured Aryelle for dead.

prologue: midnight

Aryelle woke up in the hospital, dismayed to discover that none of the adults believed her about the strange shadow creatures. Even her teacher, Yen Sid, insisted that she had been hallucinating due to feedback from a miscast spell. Aryelle was determined to locate the creatures and save her friend, so she escaped from the hospital and ran away from home. Knowing that she needed more information, she headed to the magic school to do research.

Meanwhile, Xaranevs and Gryxas discovered that Yen Sid had been researching Heartless and Nobodies, and that the sorcerer was attempting to find a way into their world. Xaranevs refused to allow this to come to pass, and went with Gryxas to destroy Yen Sid's research. This seemed like an excellent plan -- until the pair of Nobodies became trapped in a magical maze after invading Yen Sid's tower. As they tried to escape, Aryelle inadvertently opened the maze and encountered them. Xaranevs and Gryxas kidnapped her to cover their tracks, and brought her to the World That Never Was.

Aryelle initially defended Yen Sid, but Xaranevs confronted her with the stolen research, which indicated that the sorcerer had been in Twilight Town searching for the Keyblade Master and all of the missing children were 'potentials'. At first she believed the Nobodies had taken them, as they had kidnapped her, but Xaranevs insisted they were (at least in this particular case) innocent. Aryelle managed to talk him into letting her out of the cell she was in, though he warned her not to attempt to escape.

Later, Gryxas approached Xaranevs to discuss what they had learned. The two determined that the strange behavior of the Heartless meant that someone was controlling them, and that whoever it was must also be searching for the Keyblade Master. He convinced Xaranevs to let him take Aryelle and search for the missing children, as they were all her friends and that if she was their ally it would help them assure any present or future Keyblade Master of their good intentions. Xaranevs agreed, though he remains blissfully unaware that Gryxas' real plan is to engineer a situation where the Keyblade Master will assassinate Zomax.

prologue: tides

Meanwhile, Glen fell until he reached the bottom of the ocean. In a station of colored glass, he passed through a door of light and awoke on the shores of a strange world...
